The Perambalur Municipality has
taken up a project to recycle plastic waste as part of its solid waste
management programme.
The Perambalur Municipality will be the first local body in
Tamil Nadu to use plastic waste for laying the roads by mixing it with bitumen.
The municipality has
constructed a building for segregating the plastic waste at source. A crusher
has been set up at the building at an expenditure of Rs. 15 lakh.
The waste plastic will be
crushed and will be mixed with the black tar for laying the road, according to
an official release here on Saturday. The municipality would sell the plastic
pellets to public, the release added.
Darez Ahamed, Collector,
inaugurated the crushing machine. Murali, Chairman, and Murali, Commissioner,
explained the advantages of the crusher.
